It means understanding that sometimes FPS matter more than other times, and setting your expectations/making your demands accordingly. That does not mean caving to laziness and giving carte blanche to devs to curb FPS.

I think it is not unreasonable to accept lower FPS in old, slower-paced games like this, in exchange for a speedy PC port. But we also want them to know we are reasonable people who understand the compromises made during development. Yes we want companies to support higher FPS, and we want them to know we value such things. So, don't be a sheep and just bleat the 60-fps mantra without thinking. While more FPS would certainly improve the experience even further, the degree of that improvement is considerably less than what one might expect and certainly magnitudes less than you would get from, say, a first-person shooter game or a driving game (either of which usually plays extremely poorly at low FPS). The minigames are moderately paced if at all about movement.įor a game like that, FPS has much less of an impact than for many other games, particularly modern, graphic-intensive ones. There are no quick-time events, no split-second trigger sensitive sequences. Combat is turn-based, graphics are artistic more than functional. The action is limited, there are few fast-paced sequences. 3D shooter game? FPS is extremely relevant. 2D puzzle game with static images? FPS is almost irrelevant. FPS matter in very specific ways, and those are not universally applicable across all games. What say you? The whole 60-fps mantra is not an unequivocal truth. A part of me feels like I am suffering alone and yet another part of me fears betraying the values I hold dear.
So, do I buy this wonderful childhood game of mine despite it's shortcoming and support SQUARE for their terrible framerate of choice or do I resist still and pass this for good? What say you fellow PC gamers. There may never be a day when FFX will be 60 FPS. Now, as a consumer that always advocates for speaking with your wallet, I must admit I'm getting a bad case of blue balls here.
It seems with much older games remastering from 30 to 60 is technically more difficult. We all know 60 FPS is the definitive choice that should be supported. Originally posted by Romu:Alright, alright.
